3 Launches an In-Car Version of MiFi

Mobile service provider 3 had launched MiFi, a personal Wi-Fi system, some time back. This allowed the users to connect more than one devices to broadband though only one mobile broadband connection.

Now as a new surprise, 3 has introduced a device which will enable you to have wireless connection in your car as well. 3 recently introduced the product to the public at Gadget Show Live in Birmingham. It is actually a version of MiFi itself which had been modified to suit a running car. A user of the device can use iPads, iPods, games and netbooks in the car itself. It could especially be useful in long journeys. It is prices at £59.99 which includes the modem, main, charger and 1GB of data.

According to David Kerrigan, 3’s head of internet services, one fourth of the UK population would love to have internet access in their car. However, data can be interpreted to mean anything. Therefore, contradiction the statement made by Mr. Kerrigan, it can be stated that a recent Infonetics Research report suggests the sale of MiFi and other similar products fell by 28% in last one year though the sale of mobile broadband devices (see broadband dongle pay as you go) grew. Thus it seems that people may not be that interested in broadband hotspots.

Whether people will take a liking to the product or not is dependent on whether they want 3’s connection or not and whether they like the idea of using internet while on a drive.
