The holiday season brings with it a host of traditions. After the presents, the tree and the goodies, one of the favored customs numerous families have is the execution of Christmas skits by the youngsters. Whether for church, schooltime or household parties, these brief plays let youngsters select an involved role in the madness of the holidays. Kids love the chance to dress up and perform, while parents and other kin members enjoy the performance. Everyone is honored with warm memories they give to emerging contemporaries. Everyone sits or stands roughly in a round around the mass of presents. Prepare slips of paper adequate to the total of gifts with clearly written numbers. Be certain to distinguish six from 9, 1 from seven. Each active invitee takes a number and holds onto that slip of paper. On the first turn, the invitee with paper slip #1 takes a present, opens it, and all admire it. On the second round, the guest with paper slip #2 receives the option of “stealing” any unwrapped present (#1’s) or choosing a wrapped one. If #2 bargains #1’s gift, then #1 must open a wrapped gift. On the third turn, the guest with paper slip #3 gets the choice of “stealing” any unwrapped present (#1’s or #2’s) or taking a wrapped one. If a gift is swiped from you, you can steal a gift, or open a wrapped one.
Regulations about “stealing:” A present cannot be immediately taken back from the guest who just took it.
The turn carries on until a wrapped gift is selected thus the thieving stops. The 4th “owner” of a gift gets to keep it. The present is “dead” after it has been stolen three times. “Owners” of “live” presents must keep them visible and hold them up when requested. The present exchange ends when the last wrapped gift is opened. Usually, invitees are encouraged to perpetuate the present stealing as long as there are “live” gifts, but no one is indebted to do this.
Christmas is one of the seasons that tykes look forward to most. Besides the hope of gifts, kids enjoy the occasion cheer that spreads from school, through the streets and to their households. Memories of the smells of mom’s baking wafting through the home, or the picture of pop stringing along Christmas lights while trying not to fall off the roof are two of the numerous memories a great deal of individuals will treasure for the remainder of their lives.
