On Hand Writing Letters and Job Applications

Although it may seem like hand-writing is becoming unnecessary, it’s one that is even nowadays vital in numerous walks of life. A handwritten letter expresses more gravitas than a typewritten missive, like an invitation, an apology, or an application for a job.

One might imagine it’s a recent trend of people shunning hand-writing and using a keyboard instead, yet as far back as the late 19th century, there were that handwriting was overlooked because of the invention of those times : the typwriter. Nowadays, the blame is being linked to the use of computer keyboards.

Nevertheless, there still exists a strong requirement for penmanship skills in both the business world and academia. Hand written missives are considered as to a greater extent more honest, they show the author has carefully thought out her words, while demonstrating more respectfulness to the recipient. In this age of templated letters, the penned missive has never been more important.

I must admit to something. I’ve frequently been caught out with my own terrible penmanship – made worse due to decades of reliance on my computer keyboard. In situations where I’ve had to put pen to paper, my writing’s been almost illegible at times. That’s just not professional. How to solve such a problem? I handwrote whenever the chance came to do so, and my handwriting greatly improved. So it’s wise to brush up on your handwriting through sheer repitition.

Another point is to get a pen your hand is comfortable with, with refills. A great set of pens to refill with are the renowned mont blanc fountain pens set. This allows you to improve your penmanship with a single pen.
