Because of the Global Recession a Lot of Ski Businesses Are Cutting down Their Amount of Catered Ski Chalets

In light of the recession snowboarding bookings dropped last season.

Notwithstanding acceptable early on sales coupled with fantastic skiing conditions.

This reduction in numbers follows on from five seasons of successive development within the snowboarding industry, and the number of skiers contracted from 1.1 million in 2008/9 to under a million last ski season.

This is partly due to vacationers giving the season a miss, while other skiers who’d normally have two or more ski holidays, merely had one.

Sales for the independent travel sector fell by 15% with numerous low cost airlines slashing the amount of flights to some cities.

Moreover tour operators witnessed the sales falling by 15%.

Nonetheless, the leading companies market share rested at just over a healthy 70% and the French Alps retained its position as the most visited ski destination with 37% of the skiing market.

Due to this many ski operators cut the amount of chalets they operate this coming season.

Catered chalets will surely witness a reduction in numbers due to the fact that a luxury catered chalet costs more in terms of chalet chefs and lease if it is not sold.

It seems unlikely we shall witness the deals which were around this winter.

Whilst prices are in all likelihood to augment, costs probably won’t rise substantially.

This winter beyond any doubt poses serious challenges for an industry that is touched by by the effects of the depression, fall in the value of the pound, soaring costs of fuel as well as high fixed operating costs for skiing companies.
